Perinatal Transiton
The perinatal period is undeniably one of the most transformative phases in a woman's life, yet many find themselves struggling to find their footing in a culture that minimizes the impact of this transition. During conception, pregnancy, birth, and parenting, it is common for one to experience both profound joys and complex challenges. Throughout this time, birthing parents face an array of emotional, physical, and psychological fluctuations that can significantly influence both their well-being and the development of their child.
Postpartum depression and anxiety are prevalent issues that can undermine the emotional bonds necessary for healthy parent- child interactions and a functional family system. Appropriate therapeutic support during this period of development utilizes a multi-faceted approach. In my work with perinatal clients, I provide comprehensive guidance that includes mental health support, somatic techniques, and trauma processing, along with referral to appropriate providers and with educational and community resources.
Trauma Processing
During the perinatal period, many people suffer traumatic events that may have lifelong impacts on their emotional and mental health. Lifespan Integration (LI) is a therapy that helps individuals heal from trauma by exploring and processing past experiences in a safe environment. This method is particularly useful for those dealing with the aftermath of obstetric and medical trauma, grief, postpartum issues, and relationship problems, as it assists in understanding their experiences and builds resilience.
I provide LI as a way to process and integrate trauma alongside longer-term talk therapy or as a short-term option. This support is available to birthing parents and their support system, including their partners, medical professionals, and birth workers who may be facing the effects of vicarious trauma.
Parenting
Parenting in the modern world can feel isolating and emotionally taxing. Balancing work, family, and relationships often leaves parents feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from their own needs. In our sessions, we will explore your parenting experience's emotional aspects. I provide a supportive space for you to share your struggles and fears, acknowledging how these pressures impact your mental health. Together, we can develop strategies to create balance and enhance emotional resilience.
I offer personalized support tailored to your needs as a parent and your emotional well-being. This includes stress reduction techniques, building resilience and self-compassion, along with practical resources for effective parenting in today’s world. Our goal is to nurture your emotional well-being and that of your family, creating a safe environment for growth and connection.
Grief and Loss
Experiencing the loss of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after, whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, or termination, often results in disenfranchised grief. Parents who have experienced pregnancy, infant, and child loss often experience profound isolation as peers or family members struggle to respond adequately to their experience. This lack of validation and effective response can exacerbate their pain, amplifying the impact of grief.
Grieving parents require validation and support during their grief process. By fostering a compassionate environment that recognizes and honors their unique story, I assist clients in navigating their healing journey. Together, we aim to reclaim their narratives and confront the silence and stigma surrounding their experiences.
